Terrorism has become a major international issue since the events of 11 september 2001. Recognizing this, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has amended the SOLAS Convention and created the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code). All ships and port facilities engaged on international voyages will therefore have to comply with this code by 1 July 2004.
